My last iPod post started quite a comment thread on multi-ipod households. Here's the next frontier for me, since I can't afford that second iPod as stereo replacement: cases.
I need a case. That quickly became clear. I'm carying it around enough that I don't want one that leaves the screen and wheel accessible. I want to protect those parts as well. I'm thinking some like this.

I have tried some of the leather cases and did not wind up likeing them. I felt like they added too much bulk, and the leather always winds up feeling cheap. I have seen a number of cool silicone rubber skins like these. They protect the finish, allow complete button access, fit like a glove, and look cool.
It's all a matter of taste, though.
I have an iSkin and it does everything I need. It has easy access for cables - it has a belt clip and it is easy to grip. I just looked at the iSkins for your iPod and it says they even work with docks now.
I chose not to get a leather case for esthetic reasons and I did not want one that open because it would be yoo hard to use the controls - I wanted to be able to reach over and change songs easily.

I can see that they might add too much bulk. I don't think you can get shock absorbing without the bulk, but the tradeoff might not be worth it.

I like leather because of the esthetic. I like the idea of some shock absorbing in case of drops. Maybe I haven't used it enough yet to know, but doesn't seem like immediate access to the wheel is a big thing for me.
I should probably wait awhile to see how my use of it evolves, and also to explore the bewildering variety of cases. I saw some ballistic nylon pouches that might be an alternative.
