Toni is back
Update
Toni got out of the hospital Wednesday and was at Jeri's today. She's not supposed to be out of bed, but she's not much of a rule follower. I chatted with her for almost an hour, while she sat in the same spot as in this picture. She's in better spirits than I would be, or she's faking it well. She has dialysis every other day, and an appointment in November to talk about a transplant.
She liked the, "I'm not dead yet" T-shirt I got her.

I blogged this photo recently, and a little info on the subject, Toni. On Sunday both of Toni's kidneys were removed because of infection. They didn't expect her to survive the surgery. Her mother told me that her first words out of surgery were, "Not dead yet."
I visited her in the ICU today. That was hard. But she was able to have a conversation and smile a couple times. She asked me how Jae and James where, and how my weekend was. She is very brave. Keep fighting, champ.

Breakfast in bed? No way!
Wednesday morning I didn't want to get up. I had pulled the covers over my head and I was procrastinating, counting down the minutes in my head till the last moment I thought I could get up and make it to work on time. The only thing keeping me conscious was the smell of coffee wafting in from the kitchen.
I had about reached the point-of-no-on-time, when Jae walked into the bedroom with a cup of coffee.
"Oh, I love you," I moaned, and propped myself up in bed so I could drink it. After she handed me the cup, Jae got a beach towel and covered my reclining form with it.
"OK, I could spill it," I thought to myself, as I watched her silently leave the room again. I was savoring the first swallow of coffee when she walked back in carrying a plate.
"No way," I cried out, as she rested on my lap a plate with scrambled eggs, toast, and orange slices. She smiled and left me to my breakfast.
As I was finishing up. she walked back into the room and asked, "Do want a ride to work, today?" Oh, I love this woman.

Feeling better
I've been back to interacting with humans the past few days, washing my hands a lot and wearing a mask around James. Today, back to work. This weekend, camping!
